Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 2 of Advent - December 10, 2020

THURSDAY 2ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

Isaiah 41:13-20

Matthew 11:11-15

A VIOLENT FAITH

The phrase in the gospel reading of today that 'since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence and the violent are taking it by storm' is a very popular quote by many Christians. The world was very lukewarm and forlorn before the coming of our Lord Jesus. It was with the coming of John the Baptist to prepare for his coming that the awareness and consciousness of living a good life was reinvigorated. With the coming of Christ, there is no room for laxity and lukewarm attitude in the practice of the Christian faith. We have to be violent in the practice of our faith. We have to defend what we believe in and live it out with our whole heart. We cannot be a Christian by day and a pagan at night. It is only those who are violent with their faith who will be ready for Jesus and gain the kingdom of God. We have to be violent by being fervent in prayer, persevering in hope, and readiness to trust God. You cannot gain the kingdom if nothing in your life shows that you are a Christian. God help us. Amen.
