Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 2 of Ordinary Time Year I - January 21, 2021

THURSDAY 21ST JANUARY 2021

MEMORIAL OF ST. AGNES

Hebrews 7:25-8:6

Mark 3:7-12

Holiness of life is indeed a great determination of the glory of God inherent in the human person. According to the author of the first reading of today, Jesus is the ideal high priest who has offered himself once and for all as a sacrifice to God our father. He therefore as holy and as God, had the power to cure all those who were sick and possessed by the devil. It is a show that it pays to be Holy. All those who aspire for spiritual gifts and a life with God, strive towards holiness if life.

This is the type of understanding we see in the life of St Agnes. Though she was very young, she understood what it means to be holy. St Agnes died st the age of 12, but her memories live forever because she was able to detect early that life is not just what we see around us. She refused to be defiled, choosing a life of virginity and chastity, and she died for it. May almighty God grant us the grace to see and judge beyond the things of this world. God help us. Amen.
