MONDAY 1ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Hebrews 1:1-6
Mark 1:14-20
JESUS HAS MADE THE FATHER KNOWN
Today we begin the ordinary time season in the calendar of the church. It is called ordinary time because no particular mystery is celebrated. It is a period we reflect on the life and teachings of Jesus. This period will continue until Ash Wednesday when we shall begin the Lenten season.
The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is truly a blessing to humanity. The author of the letter to the Hebrews, tells us today that in the Old Testament, God spoke to the people of Israel in various ways such as through his word, the prophets, visions and others, but in our own time, God decided to come down to this world himself to speak to us. He has sent us his son to make us know and understand him better.
The prophets of old only said what they heard from God and did what they felt would be pleasing to God, but Christ has come to tell us who God is and has given us access to him.
We see in the gospel reading how Jesus chose some Apostles to assist him in carrying out his work. As Jesus begins his public ministry, we should listen to him and do whatever he tells us. Let us put our hope and trust in him for he alone knows the father through and through. He will lead us to the kingdom. God help us. Amen.
