Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 34 Ordinary time - November 26, 2020

THURSDAY 34TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Apocalypse 18:1-2,21-23,19:1-3,9

Luke 20:20-28

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE LAST DAY

As each day goes by, we gradually approach the end of the year. The readings continue to hint us about the end of time so that we will be conscious of the life we live. The gospel reading of today is very scary, it describes destructive scenes of things that will happen to the people of Israel due to their sin and reluctance to accept him. The things described truly happened in 70AD when Jerusalem was destroyed. Jesus also points out some disasters that may occur before the end of the world. Nevertheless, we are not to focus on the signs in the moon and sun, they should not be our concern. We only have control over the quality of life we live and ask ourselves if it is good enough to present to God if he comes right now. No one knows when he will come.

God help us to be ready. Amen.
