THEME: THE DAY I MET MY GUARDIAN ANGEL
Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". As the Church celebrates the memorial of the Guardian angels today, I want to reflect with us on the theme "The Day I met my Guardian Angel". Beloved, the term "guardian angel" refers to the belief that each one of us as children from a royal Father, has an angel who is charged to protect our soul through life and help bring us back to God safely. The belief in the existence of guardian angels and their mission goes back to Genesis. However, the celebration of today flows from the feast of the archangels which we celebrated few days ago. But unlike the archangels, the guardian angels are assigned to particular individuals to direct, lead, caution, protect and bless each of us. The question is, have you ever met your guardian angel? Do you know the name of your guardian angel? Have you ever communicated with your guardian angel? Are we conscious of the presence of our guardian angels so we do not offend or drive them away by our reckless actions?
Beloved, the belief in the reality of holy guardian angel for each of us has long been practiced in the Church. In fact, Pope St. John XXIII thought that "we must remember how admirable the intention of divine providence in entrusting to the angels the mission of watching over all mankind, and over individual human beings, lest we should fall victims to the grave dangers which we encounter. Just like how a caring and loving father will assign a trusted guide to go with his kids, when children have to make their way along a path beset with obstacles and snares, So God has assigned his angels to come to our assistance during our earthly journey amidst trials and all kinds of attacks of the enemy. So that, through the angels' help, we may avoid the snares on our path, subdue our passions and follow the straight and sure road which leads to Paradise.
As a first born child of God, we all have personal spiritual bodyguards. As Jesus told us in the Gospel reading of today, 'see that you despise not one of these little ones, for I say to you, that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heave (Matt. 18:10). So, the memorial of today is not only meant to help us be conscious and appreciate our personal guardian angel, we must also develop a personal and profound devotion to our own guardian angel and endeavour to know their names and to speak with them daily. We should also often try to repeat the prayer to my guardian angel, which we learnt in the days of our childhood. If you have not met your guardian angel before, then pray to do so. God bless you
Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8)
LET US PRAY : Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide..... Amen
